At many of the Plastic Express sites, we also handle some non-plastic commodities, which include; paper rolls, steel, building materials and other dry bulk materials. Job Summary

The janitor position performs custodial work in offices, warehouses, industrial areas and other building interiors and exteriors. 

Responsibilities and Duties

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

• Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, waxes and polishes floors using industrial vacuum cleaners and scrubbing and buffing machines.
• Sometimes using ladders, dusts and washes walls, cleans ceilings and polishes light fixtures. Dusts desks and other office furniture as well as ceiling HAVAC supply and return outlets.
• Moves cabinets, boxes, furniture, crates and equipment to clean areas. May remove stains from such surfaces as rugs, drapes, walls, and floors using chemicals and cleaning solutions.
• Clean and sanitize restrooms, breakroom, offices and waiting area.
• Empty warehouse garbage cans & replace liners as needed.
• Straighten and organize warehouse as directed by Supervisors.
• Collects cardboard and places in bailer to compact it. Tie and remove baled cardboard from bailer.
• May also sweep walks, rake leaves, cut grass, remove snow or perform other incidental seasonal tasks.
• May assist with other warehouse functions as needed and directed.

Qualifications and Skills

• Must be able to safely operate a forklift and must pass site forklift certification. 
• Must have the ability to think independently and make decisions that are in the company’s best interest. 
• Must possess excellent interpersonal, communications and organizational skills. Must be multi-task oriented with the ability to handle many activities simultaneously. 
• Must be able to work overtime, long hours, weekends and holidays when needed. 

Required Education and Experience

• Minimum education: high school diploma or equivalent

Supervisory Responsibility

• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This position works in a warehouse setting, with some outdoor exposure during the workday. This role may use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and standard warehouse equipment such as hand trucks, box cutters and tape dispensers.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Must be able to perform physical labor such as; lifting up to 55 lbs., moving up to 250 pounds, climbing ladders, operate control panels and working with hand tools.
• Must be able use fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk and/or hear. 
• Employee must possess vision abilities required by this job function to include close visual confirmation of finely printed documents, have distance vision to safely and correctly identify objects and or markings.
• Must have peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus on subjects or objects at any safe working distance.

This is a full-time position. Must be able to work overtime, long hours, weekends and holidays when needed.
